The territory of Montone, in the beautiful province of Perugia, is a true treasure trove of history, nature, and local traditions passed down through generations. Here, you can admire gentle green hills, lush forests, and vast rural areas with typical crops, as well as scenic roads that offer breathtaking views and invite you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape.

In addition to the charming and captivating medieval village of Montone, the surrounding area is home to numerous small towns, traditional farms, and vast natural spaces ideal for hiking and various outdoor activities. Imposing castles, ancient churches, and historic villas further enrich the local cultural heritage, making this area truly perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in history and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Umbrian countryside.

The village

Montone stands on a hill overlooking the Upper Tiber Valley and the Carpina stream valley – a natural landscape that frames a village still preserving its typical medieval structure today. Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages: even in ancient times, it was a territory dotted with towers and fortifications.

Historical reenactment of the donation of the Santa Spina

The Donation of the Santa Spina began in the early 1960s as a religious celebration and display of the relic itself. Over the following years, it evolved into a true competition among the three districts of the town: Porta del Borgo, Porta del Monte, and Porta del Verziere.

Festa del Bosco

In autumn, usually between late October and early November, a fair is held dedicated to forest fruits and local flavors. The event celebrates nature with its products: mushrooms, truffles, chestnuts, honey, as well as artisanal goods, cured meats, and traditional cheeses.

Umbria Film Festival

Every summer, usually in the first half of July, the charming village of Montone transforms into a true open-air cinema under the stars. In the town’s squares and historic courtyards, high-quality international films are screened, often outdoors, creating a magical and captivating atmosphere.
